The Children's Village of Baltimore

our story

Julie Richardson is an early childhood professional, possessing a strong child-centered perspective that believes young children are capable of constructing their own knowledge.

I practice asking thoughtful questions and planning activities that incorporate children’s rich ideas and enhance their investigations. I use documentation to share their explorations with their parents and the community. This enables me to gain a deeper understanding of the children and their experiences, enhancing my ability to make informed decisions about appropriate ways to support each child’s development and learning.

My goal is to help parents understand that learning is not always the outcome of what is directly taught but can result from children working together to explore their ideas. In addition, documentation, along with informal discussions and printed resources, will enrich the parents’ experiences, enhance communication, and deepen their understanding of child development.

My dedication to supporting children and their families stems from my belief that in order to build a more compassionate society; we need to be committed to taking care of our children. By cherishing childhood and providing children with time to wonder, explore, and be joyful, we send the message that we respect and value their thoughts and ideas. From my perspective, there is no better way to model compassion for the youngest members of our society.
